Really could use some help...

Please help a poor stranded person with food and whatever else I can get.
I am loathing being homeless and stranded...I just need assistance to get on my feet again. Anything ...anything will help the smallest of donation. Being homeless and hungry has really been difficult for me since October. You can read my previous posts on my journal to learn more.

My Paypal is Rowens_pdx@yahoo.com

I hope Karma works in my favor, I have never not helped someone who was in need and for once I am the needy.

Thank you so much.

Cold Hard Brakes Update [18 Dec 2008|08:37am]

feather_armor
The "frozen" brake issue was solved by a Subaru mechanic for $67.00 - cheapest car repair ever!

It was indeed the check valve on the brake booster.

Just FYI for anyone experiencing the same problem - I guess it's quite common.

Subaru Brake Problem in Cold Weather [15 Dec 2008|09:16am]

feather_armor
I have a 96 Legacy Outback, which I love (of course!)

One problem...when temperatures drop, my brakes seem to freeze up - the pedal is difficult to push down and only after warming up and pumping the brakes a lot will it "release" and the brakes will function normally.

Online research has yielded two solutions:

(a) brake fluid flush

(b) replace the check valve on the booster

Has anyone had a similar problem and, more importantly, had it fixed successfully?

Thanks much!

I just found subarujoint and this community, and posted this over there as well.

No surprise that it took me this long to find a Subaru community - it took me longer to get a Subaru in the first place!

We got our Subaru Forester for our anniversary, which is on December 27th. I bought it on the 24th, after shopping for a few weeks. Since the dealership was having a short day for Christmas Eve, they had to hurry up and get me out of there so that they could leave. That helped me to pretty much name my own price. Car salesmen are really not fun to deal with, I had previously found, but this one was great. He had only been selling cars for a few months, and previously worked with computers! My kind of guy! LOL

It's a 2008 Forester 2.5X, Dark Gray Metallic. It looks almost black, but dark bluish/purplish when it is bright outside. My husband was at work when I bought it, but I took the salesman with me to his work to show him when test-driving it. I got it at a Northern California dealer.

I haven't made big changes to it, just put an Aztec blanket on the back seat and bought a steering wheel cover right away. It gets so hot here that I started getting them long ago, so that the wheel wouldn't be so hot. This one actually somewhat fails at that, but I love the looks of it, and of steering wheel covers in general.

The tires squeal. They are Yokahamas, and should be good, but I will be glad to replace them when the time comes if it will make for a lack of squealing. Supposedly, this is common, but it is really annoying. Not so annoying that I will pay money to replace new tires, though. ;) When I do that, I'll maybe get some wheels too, to replace the hubcaps.

We haven't done freeway driving, just city, and I get 19 mpg generally. Using the air conditioning a lot takes 1 or 2 off that. Previously, we had a Ford Escort that got 24-26 city, and before that a Toyota Camry that did not get any better than this Subaru - it usually got 17 mpg city. I think the gas mileage is appropriate for this type of vehicle, but that Camry was a big disappointment. I liked the Ford a lot for what it was.

Hooray for Subarus, and Subaru communities! :D

Due to my recent accident I might buy an 02 WRX Sport Wagon tomorrow.

It's a 5MT, 114K on the clock, and they want $9800 for it. Blue is Dealer 11K+, PP Ex 9,100, Good 8,400.

With the inflation of 4bangers due to gas prices, I think that's a pretty fair price, the car looks clean, but I won't know until seeing it tomorrow.

Any advice on buying a newish vehicle, and or suggestions on whether I should even try to haggle or not?

Thanks,
Fuji

Vanity post [02 Mar 2008|04:33pm]

Hey all, this is my 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport and I've taken her all around the country the past eight years. We've been up logging trails, mountains, deserts, the Pacific Coast highway (my favorite drive ever!), the Tail of the Dragon (318 curves in 11 miles!...That was fun!) and she's now got about 220,000 miles on her. I've been real happy with her. Saturday, I took her down about 450' below the surface of the earth and while I was down in the Vulcan quarry, I found out why quarries are popular spots to photograph cars...

I loaded her up with a couple hundred pounds of rocks yesterday and even though I've lost all the hubcaps over the years and there's a small dent in the door where someone's car was slammed into her by another car, she's looking pretty good there! Sure, I've had to replace the clutch, brakes and had a rear wheel bearing replaced...I think I've still got a few good years left in her.

Best Subie part/accessory sellers? [10 Feb 2008|03:40pm]

moskevyu
Hey all,

I just became a first time Subie owner this weekend. The dealer had some accessories that I'd like, but I didn't want to pay their prices.

So, which online sellers of Subaru part and accessories give the good deals? I'm looking to put splash guards, mud mats, a molded trunk tray and possibly a spoiler on my car. The spoiler isn't a priority, but the trunk tray is.

alarm issue [08 Feb 2008|04:59pm]

[ mood | confused ]

hey everyone.

i drive a 99 forester s with almost 120K miles on it. i've had the car myself only for 2.5 years and have had almost no problems with it. earlier this week, it did a weird thing-- i was driving in my neighborhood and the alarm went off-- just a couple of quick chirps & it locked the doors for me. it did this again about an hour later. my fob had been slow so i went out and bought new batteries for the fob & the extra. this didn't help-- my fob no longer activates the alarm at all. (yes, i've checked to make sure the right batteries are in the right way.)

it's been quiet until today--now it's happening again randomly, only with a greater frequency. i've looked at the book that came w/ the car but haven't found anything specifically about this weird problem.

thoughts?

thanks.

98 Forester [03 Oct 2007|08:17am]

flainn
Hi,

A friend is willing to sell me his '98 Forester (which has a blown engine but no other problems) for cheap, and I'm being very tempted by his offer.

I'm wondering if you guys can tell me, are there any major issues with that model year?

Getting a replacement engine is not a problem, but I was wondering what kinds of engines I can shoehorn into this thing. Can I fit a turbo engine in it?

we pulled the engine 2xs. it had warped heads. so it got resurfaced with all new head gaskets + new O2 sensors + other random parts. and a new "computer" on its way.
it runs great + no clicking noise.

we've got a 98'ej2.5 thats overheating and pushing air through the cooling system did a pressure test on the cooling system and it held over night but when I turn over the motor with the coil disconnected it will build up to 50 psi with out even running and cold. I did a compression test as well all cylinder come out 150 psi or 10 psi within. and it isn't the radiator cap or thermostat bolth got replaced today.

any ideas?

1997 Impreza L [01 Feb 2007|07:02pm]

deadwinter
Hi:

My girlfriend is looking, among other things, at a 1997 Impreza Coupe. The mileage is fairly low for a car that old, and the price seems right. I just wanted to ask you guys if you have any experience with this model year and in particular with this line.

Thanks in advance for your help.

talk about bloody frustrating...Impreza 2.5RS ignition issues. [30 Nov 2006|08:10am]

[ mood | annoyed ]

so i've had spark issues on and off for about a month or so...before that, it had been a cut wire to the MAF sensor. over the past week the car's been sputtering and dying repeatedly...usually while in gear on the highway. D:<

aside from the plugs and wires, what am i missing? could the ignition be going up? correct me if i'm wrong, but a 99 2.5RS doesn't have a distributor cap and rotor, right?

i feel like such a dunce...i just see that CEL and get retarded about what else could be wrong.

NO DIBS! First person with cash in hand takes whatever.
NO LOWBALLERS! Please don't waste my time OR yours. Reasonable offers will be considered, but please keep in mind that all the money raised goes toward a down payment on a new car.

I am located in the Bay Area of California, and I really don't want to deal with shipping if I don't have to.  BUT, if you insist on having something shipped, YOU pay and I will find the cheapest shipping possible (usually DHL).  I accept cash and PayPal.

Cheers and enjoy! Thanks for reading!
